An Introduction to Bid’ah (PART 2)

(PART 2) An Introduction to Bid’ah

There are those who use the excuse that the Bid’ah they perform is a good innovation (Bid’ah Hasana).  These people use their desires to decipher which is a good practice and which is a bad practice.
They did not confine their understanding to the text (Qur’aan and Sunnah), instead they made the ration an evidence which they refer to.

Again:

Anything that is added, taken away, distorted, misinterpreted in the Shareeah is Bid’ah

The innovation’s are are greater than sins and are regarded as Kufr acts yet they are of many degrees, some are on the level of Shirk Akbar, which cause one to become apostate from the Deen of Islam and this is known as “Bid’ah al Mukafirah”.  Others are of a lesser degree but still sever enough to beckon the Anger of Allah and this is “Bid’ah Gayru Mukafirah”.

However the Manhaj of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah is to close all forms of Bid’ah no matter how big or small, because all distortion, fitna, apostasy originated from the innovation.

Imam Bukhari said:

“>>We should forbid the innovation,

>>warn the people,

>>stop the Jahil from being in charge of the people,

>>and encourage the scholars to be in charge over the people.

>>Constantly expose the false opinions and any invalid analogy.

>>And forbid all exaggeration in the Deen.

>>Forbidding the dispute and differeing,

>>and forbid imitating the people of the Book and Mushrikeen.”

There are many groups and organisations that rise to carry da’awah of Islam to mankind, but if the one in charge over them is a Jahil (ignorant) then by default his policies will lack the dictates of Shareeah and will lead to Bid’ah.

Imam Lalikai quoted the hadeeth mawquf of Abdullah ibn Umar, in which he said:

“”All Bid’ah is misguidance even if the people think it to be good.”

”[Reported by Imam Lalikai in Sharh ‘Itiqaad Ahl Sunnah Wal Jamaah, Volume 1, page 92.  And Albani declared this hadeeth to be saheeh]

The statement of Abdullah ibn Umar negates all those that perform certain types of innovation, and claim it to be ‘Biddah Hasanna (good innovation)’.  No matter how good it may be to the perception of the people it is still misguidance from the correct path.

EFFECTS OF BID’AH ON THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY

bid’ah has the following evil effects on the muslim ummah:

1. Fitnah: which includes Kufr, Apostasy, killing, suffering e.t.c.

2. Enmity and hatred amongst muslims

3. Prevention from the fountain (al-Hawd)

evidence for number 1:
“…let those who violate the prophet’s order beware lest some fitnah befall them or a grievous penalty be inflicted on them”
[Suuratu Nur aayah 63]

evidence for number 2:
“from those who call themselves christians, we took a covenant but they forgot a good part of the message that was sent to them so, we estranged them with enmity and hatred to the day of judgement…”
[Maaidah aayah 14]

evidence for number 3:
“Sahl bin Sa’d said, “I heard the Prophet (saw) saying,

“I am your predecessor at the Lake-Fount (Kauthar), and whoever will come to it, will drink from it, and whoever will drink from it, will never become thirsty after that. There will come to me some people whom I know and they know me, and then a barrier will be set up between me and them.” Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri added that the Prophet further said: “I will say those people are from me. It will be said, ‘You do not know what changes and new things they did after you.’ Then I will say, ‘Far removed (from mercy), far removed (from mercy), those who changed (the religion) after me!
“[Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 88, Number 174
]

Ibn Abbass reported that Muhammad (saw) said,

“A group of my Ummah will be dragged towards the left, I will say, “my Lord, my companions (Usayhabi), my companions (the companions are Muslim from the general Ummah, not the Sahabah that accompanied him)” it will be said, “you don’t know (Oh Muhammad) what they innovated after you.” I will say the way a good servant will say (at this point Muhammad (saw) quoted the aayah [Maidah 5:117], “And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things.” it will be then said, “they became apostate from the day you left them.
”[Bukhari, 4625]

oh Allah protect us from Bid’ah and from Fitnah…
